Many of our parrots come from difficult backgrounds and experience flight for the first time here at Śuka. In thoughtfully designed aviaries they can fly, connect with others, and slowly rediscover their natural behaviour. Each bird is respected as an individual, with space, attentive care, and a calm home shaped around their needs.

Meet the People Behind Śuka
Girikumar Ananda
“Śuka means everything to me. Serving the cows gave me a whole new purpose in life. Through it, I feel closer to the divine, and truly fulfilled. I’m grateful for everything this service has given me and continues to give me, every day.”
Rishi Anantajitadas Ananda
“For me, Śuka is about bringing Ahimsa into everyday life. It reminds us that compassion is not only something we feel, it is reflected in how we treat animals, nature, and the world around us.”
Swamini Dristhi
“I see Śuka as an expression of seva. Through caring for animals and nature, we have the opportunity to express our love for Bhagavān and His creation in a very practical way.”
Shridevi
“Śuka is a place very close to my heart. Seeing each animal as an individual and being able to give them a life filled with care, respect, and safety is what makes this project so meaningful to me.”
Varshabhanavidasi
“For me, Śuka is a sanctuary where animals can feel safe, cared for, and respected for who they are. It is a place where they are given the space to live according to their individual needs and simply enjoy their lives. Creating such a home for them is what makes Śuka so special to me.”
Madheshdas Ananda
“Śuka opened up a whole new world for me. Through serving the cows, I learned how aware and caring they are, how much they actually feel. I grew up in a big city, never really around animals, but this changed everything, my whole approach to all the living beings around us.”

About Śuka
& A Path of Ahimsa
Youth and Children Workshops
Children and youth connect with animals and nature through creative, hands-on activities. Through respectful animal encounters, recycled projects, nature art and gardening, they learn compassion, Ahimsa, sustainability and respect for all living beings.
We create a home where animals can live safely, express their nature, and find peace. Every aviary and shelter is shaped around their needs — and around a respectful meeting of humans and animals.
Living Ahimsa
Ahimsa is more than non-violence: it is living with awareness and love for all life. At Śuka it is practised through plant-based choices, care for the land, and compassionate meetings between people and animals.
The Importance of the Cow
In the Vedic tradition the cow is held with reverence. At Śuka, Kamadhenu and Surabhi are loved for who they are and free to grow old in peace — a relationship based on care, not use.

Bhagavat Seva means to serve Bhagavan who lives everywhere — in the trees and animals, in the natural environment, and within each one’s heart.
